Georgia, located in the Southeast corner of the United States offers many unique places to live and some amazing views of both the Appalachian Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. What greater feeling could there be than to open your front door to gorgeous views of this elevated paradise with comfortable weather to boot? One of the many counties in this wonderful state that separates itself from the rest is Fannin County. Many of the resident families here have found great homes and virtually everything to think of from the Ingles down the road to the downtown Historic District that includes the community of Blue Ridge, atop the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Blue Ridge Mountain range is a part of the Appalachian mountain range & is one of the tallest mountain ranges in the Southeastern U.S.
One of the many unique attractions in Fannin County, and more specifically the Blue Ridge community, is the historic destination of the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. Open your mind and take a look at how things used to be in the early 20th century, and imagine how difficult it must have been to transport goods and trade amongst cities and states without a railroad, or along the Toccoa, or Ocoee River. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway is one of the most significant railroads in the Appalachian Mountains of Georgia, because of the sheer size of the railroad, and because of its winding route through the mountains. Finding its way across steep ravines and gorges up to half a mile across presented some problems for the construction companies responsible for the railroad, but it was completed and still stands to this day as a monumental American milestone. The railroad connects the two towns of Blue Ridge and McCaysville in the north Georgia Appalachian Mountains, and provides its guests an amazing trip down the Toccoa River.
Not only is the town of Blue Ridge an amazing place to find historical information about the railway system, but also the cultural mix of mountainside shops, quaint restaurants, and offers some of the best art galleries. The town of Blue Ridge itself, is a depot for art gallerias, festivals, antique shops, unique shopping and many fine eateries. If you thrive in the outdoors, or enjoy gorgeous mountainside views of the town or Lake Blue Ridge, then choosing this town on the Blue Ridge Mountains is the best option for you and your family. Lake Blue Ridge, a 3,300 acre TVA lake, rests in Fannin County and offers great fishing, boating & homesites for sale. With high elevations and many ways to get up or down the mountain, the hiking here in Blue Ridge is also unbeatable.
